(Wiki)

The fifth of seven books published in The Chronicles of Narnia. This story is the first written to begin in the world of Narnia. Our main character, Shasta, is a young boy residing in Calormen; a large country to the south of Narnia.

Shasta suddenly finds himself at risk of being sold as a slave to a visiting noble. While tending the nobleman’s stallion, Shasta is astonished when it speaks to him. The horse, Bree, warns the boy that his master is unkind to slaves (and his animals), and convinces Shasta to flee with him to Bree’s home – the land of Narnia.

Some days after their successful escape, and being chased off of their path by a lion, Shasta and Bree come across someone unexpected. The young noblewoman Aravis, and her companion Hwin, a mare from Narnia. Although they mutually dislike each other, Shasta and Aravis decide that it is safer to travel together.

In their path seeking a new life, Shasta and Aravis become entangled and key players in preventing the in plots against familiar Kings, Queens, and countries alike. Cases of mistaken identify, kidnapping prevention, protection of a kingdom, and newfound identity somehow align in the most unexpected of ways.
